You enjoy the comfort of your sofa on a Sunday evening and you ponder: "should I stay put this New Year's Eve and celebrate with friends and family or shall I maybe attempt that lifelong dream spending the dawn of a new year in one of the most iconic European cities, let's say London".
If you chose to act I am with you. It is now or never.
That's how it started that year when I decided to finally plan this trip to the British capital. Having said so, I admit it has been pretty affordable to fly from Dublin to London, just an hour and a half flight away. When it comes with the anticipation of getting together with friends you haven't seen in a while, then the package is a sheer delight.
Flights get easily booked but where does one find a place to stay, appropriate for the occasion, without being ripped off. With a little bit of a research and a lot of luck I found an amazing Airbnb home in the central but not touristy neighborhood of Earls Court.
Ok, everything is planned, you booked that house of a dream and you have arrived at your destination. You find all picture perfect and true to expectations. Except your partner needs to work on a project they want to submit before the clock strucks 12:00 pm in order to get that new job they have been interviewing for. What do you do?
Well, you just have to go along with it and be supportive. If you always make space for the unexpected it is easier to handle. That's what I did anyway, and magically it worked out. We made it to the New Year's Eve planned dinner right on time.
After exchanging gifts we took a cab to Shoreditch House, a beautiful roof top pool bar set in a six-storey converted warehouse in East London, to watch the fireworks introduce the New Year. What a spectacular night!
